Schmerin grew up in Houston and his father was an attorney. While attending college, he would help fraternities book acts such as Waka Flocka Flame and Macklemore (whom he would later work for). After college, Schmerin would move to Seattle. Schmerin was an assistant for Macklemore where he was in charge of digital marketing and was his tour bus manager. He worked for him for three years.
After the passing their brother, Brandon Lepow, to cancer, they decided to focus their social media expertise to the cannabis industry with the goal of destigmatizing it. This lead to the launch of the Top Tree Agency, a digital marketing agency that specializes in social media campaigns. Top Tree would work with high profile clients such as Atlantic Records and High Times.
