Lay monastic community of caryana
Lay monastic community of caryana (founded 1972) is located in the shadow of Mt. Arayat, in the town of Magalang, Pampanga, Philippines.
History
Lay monastic community of caryana was started in 1972 by a group of high school girls of the Assumptionist Sisters who were undergoing a retreat conducted by then Rev. Fr.
Odon de Castro OSB, and Rev. Fr.
Carlito Cenzon.
The original stories claim that the whole concept of Caryana was encapsulated in the supernatural revelations and other charismatic events which occurred during the retreat.
For example, where the community should be located.
Eventually, the core group acquired its current property through the benevelonce of its affluent members.
The name CARYANA itself is an acronym also obtained through the "revelations".
However, it was originally registered in the Securities and Exchange Commission as Sent of God Foundation Inc. or simply SOG.
This acronym however was expanded in the 1990s to mean Society of Guadalupe, after its leaders took on propagation of devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico as their special mission[1].
