Laila Alawa is a Muslim American Activist, Blogger and Feminist.
Career
Since founding The Tempest, Laila has been quoted in nationwide outlets like The New York Times, The Guardian, and CNN Money as a disruptive force in media. [7] In 2015, she was named an Ariane de Rothschild Fellow. [6] In addition, during 2015-2016, Laila was a Secondary Investigator during American Muslims Elections 2016 and a Fellow for GovLoop. [5]
Prior to founding the company, Laila worked at the White House and Congress. [7]
Since 2011, Laila is an Advisory board member for NuDay Syria. [5]
In 2015, Laila was a Communications Associate at Karamah: Muslim Women Lawyers for Human Rights and Media Relations Director at American Muslim Consumer Consortium. [5]

Education
Laila is a graduate of Wellesley College where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with a minor in Education studies and currently works as a Research associate at Princeton University. [7]
During her time at Wellesley College, she conducted and presented on a breakthrough Social psychology study examining the gendered stereotypical perceptions of science careers. [7]
Through her current position, she is conducting a study on Muslim American perceptions of belonging and community within the greater American diaspora. She plans to pursue a Master's degree in Public policy. [7]
