Kishore Bhajiyawala

Kishore Bhajiyawala

Kishore Bhajiyawala is a tea vendor turned financier from Udhna, Surat, who came under the Income Tax Department's radar after he deposited over Rs 1 crore in one of his bank accounts following the demonetisation of the high-value currency notes [0].

When the I.T. department conducted raids they found more than Rs 1.08 crore in cash in the new currency notes of Rs 2,000, Rs 23 lakh in the defunct currency of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, Rs 5 lakh in Rs 5, 10 and 20 notes, and jewellery stacked in eight different bank lockers.

The officials also found documents related to more than 200 properties in south Gujarat.

According to the I.T. department Bhajiyawala has unaccounted wealth amounting to well over a staggering Rs 250 crore [1].

When the media approached him for answers, he seemed rather nonchalant about the whole incident and refrained from making a comment.
