Early Life & Activities

Kimberly was born and raised in the Silicon Valley area of the San Francisco Bay to Filipino parents. She mostly lived in the Cupertino area with her family. [14]She grew up having a strong passion for the game of Basketball earlier on every time she played with her family. A younger sister as well as an older sister who is 20 years old survive Kim. [14]
She was known to be a fierce competitor in the game of Basketball with a humble demeanor and an outgoing personality.
She is remembered as playing the game with great joy and always ready to practice.
She rarely celebrated her efforts and prowess on the court in order to celebrate her teammates' good play.
In the final season with her High School team, she led her team to an 11-1 record, winning the league title.
She was the most valuable player on her team and was also the captain.
She was a fanatic of the Golden State Warriors with Steph Curry being her favorite player going as far as to wear the same jersey number and shoes in her basketball games as well. [18]

After the season with her High School team ended she was also involved with other league teams that take part in tournaments.
Some time before her death during a AAU league match, she had twice experienced feinting during physical activity.
Her parents brought her to different doctors to check up on her and ensure that she was healthy to play.
Her family made sure she would receive every possible test including EKG and MRI exams and she was cleared. The doctors just advised to constantly stay hydrated as a primary precaution. [14]
Basketball Incident

On Saturday, May 7th, 2017, with only 8 minutes left during an AAU basketball game that took place at Mission College in Santa Clara, as Kim played the game she collapsed on the basketball court and hit her head hard on the floor. She was given medical attention, iced her head, and was able to get back up and managed to recuperate. [14]
After convincing her coaches to put clear her to play, she returned only to collapse on the sidelines as she entered to play.
She received quick medical attention from paramedics to no avail.
She was then taken to two different hospitals and medical professionals could not revive her.
Homestead High has a small memorial dedicated to Kim’s life in front of the school’s ASB office this week, where students have been able to drop off photos, flowers, or cards to honor her memory.

After her father arrived home to hear the news, he saw her daughter's Steph Curry shoes that were out in front of her room. He decided to attempt to contact her biggest basketball hero in getting him to sign her shows as it was one of her biggest dreams. After reaching out, fans on Social media came to support in the efforts of getting Curry to sign the shoe until he got in touch with the family and asked that the shoes be left at the training facilities he attends in Oakland. Homestead High dedicated a memorial to Kim’s life in front of the school’s ASB office the week after her death.

She was remembered for her smile.
She was truly passionate about three things and they are:

Always be confident with yourself.
She is known by her family and friends as being a person who made others better.
Due to her love and passion for basketball as well as for the Golden State Warriors, her parents have decided to burry the signed memorabilia by Steph Curry along with her other basketball gear she loved. [4]
