Kimberly Morris also known as KJ was a 37 year old bouncer at Pulse Orlando (gay nightclub). Morris had moved from Hawaii to Orlando, Florida in April 2016 to help her mother and grandmother who both lived in Orlando [1].
Morris was born in Torrington, Connecticut, and spent at least a decade in the Pioneer Valley, Massachusetts. Morris attended Post University, a private university in Waterbury, Connecticut and played on the school's basketball team [1]. She was passionate about both basketball and MMA fighting [1].
Morris performed at Diva's nightclub in Northampton, Massachusetts under the stage name Daddy K. While living Massachusetts she performed in drag in the The King St. Boiz, a drag king troupe.
Death
Kimberly "KJ" Morris was one of the 50 people killed on June 12, 2016 by Omar Mateen in the Pulse Orlando Shooting in Orlando, Florida. [3]
KJ's friend Nelson remembered Morris as a "gentle giant.
Really funny and quirky.
Just genuinely kind."
She loved emulating Justin Timberlake onstage.
Roman called her a "local icon" in the LGBT community.
Kj's ex-girlfriend Starr Shelton said "She (KJ) was such a great person and so full of life," and that "I can truly say heaven has gained an angel."
Narvell Benning a friend from college said "She (KJ) was just the sweetest person.
I can't think of a time when I did not see a smile on her face," Benning said.
"I'm so thankful of the good memories I have of her.
This is just unreal."
A drag show tribute event is being held on July 2, 2016 to raise money for KJ's family at Diva's club in Northampton, MA where KJ used to perform as Daddy K.
