On July 3, 2017, Kiane was found hanging by the neck inside her house in Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City.

^[5]Her two-year-old daughter was found near her crying while looking at her.

She had streamed her suicide on Facebook Live.

^[5]Two of her cousins, who witnessed the video, rushed to Cañares’ property and found her hanging from the ceiling of the property with an extension wire looped close to her neck.

Her father, Melencio, stated that Kiane attempted to end her life twice before, but they were able to stop her.
