Johnson was born in Peoria, Illinois.It was `while she was still in grade school that She developed passion for the arts.She eventually attended Washington Middle School of the Performing Arts. Johnson then attended Natick High School in Massachusetts where she graduated early.
Johnson attended Clayton State College in Georgia where she majored in Accounting. Following this, she graduated from Bauder College majoring in Fashion Merchandising and Design. During her college years in Clayton State, she was a part-time editor for Kids Under Construction, a gospel newsletter, and also participated as a radio commentator on WAEC in Atlanta

Ki Toy Johnson has been in King, XXL, Black Men, SSXandSmooth magazines.
Although Johnson loved the Arts, she delayed her career in acting to dedicate her time to establishing her enterprises and taking care of her two foster sons.
As an actress, she appeared in two Outkast music videos: "The Way You Move" and "B.O.B ". Johnson played the female lead role of an auto mechanic in a garage that specialized in automotive audio systems. Her role in "The Way You Move" earned her the award for Vibe's "Sexiest Video Vixen."

She also starred in a Boost Mobile commercial, and a pilot with rap star Trina titled, With Friends Like These.
