History

Keystone was founded in 1994 when the firm's founders acquired a niche business services company and ran it as day-to-day executive management.

[2]They grew the business through organic growth as well as accretive acquisitions and eventually merged it into a large publicly traded company.

Operations

Keystone Capital specializes in investments in owner-operator recapitalizations and family businesses, corporate divestitures, special situations like in publicly traded companies, later stage, mature, industry consolidations and buyouts and acquisition of mid-sized businesses, middle market, and mature companies that are leaders in their niche markets.

[1]The firm does not invest in start-ups, commodities, defense and government contractors, and retail and restaurants.

Coinbase Acquisition

On June 6th, 2018, it was announced that Coinbase had acquired Keystone Capital.

[0]The motivation behind the deal was in order to become a fully SEC-regulated broker dealer.

[0]This would allow Coinbase to offer blockchain-based securities, under the oversight of the SEC.
