Kenneth Earl Fults is an American suspected criminal from Spalding County, Georgia.
Allegations
Fults was sentenced to death in May 1996 in Spalding County, Georgia for killing a neighbor, 19-year-old Cathy Bonds, after breaking into her home on Jan. 30, 1996. Mr. Fults smothered her with a pillow and then shot her before stealing her car.
Fults pleaded guilty to murdering Bounds and went on trial only so his sentence could be set.
According to police and the accounts Fults gave to investigators and during sentencing, Fults was on a weeklong crime spree with the goal of stealing guns so he could kill his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.
He tried to shoot his rival on Jan. 29, 1996, from an empty apartment, but the stolen gun jammed.
Fults wanted a better gun, according to prosecutors.
Mr. Fults had a history of mental illness but no prior felony convictions.
Execution
Kenneth Earl Fults is scheduled to die by lethal injection at 7 p.m. on April 12, 2016.
He requested a t-bone steak, baked potato with butter, brown rice and apple juice for his last meal.
