Keith Boyer was an American police officer serving the Whittier Police Department. ^[1]

Officer Boyer was hired by WPD in 1989 and had plans to retire. ^[1]He enjoyed playing drums in his free time. ^[9]

On February 20, 2017, Officer Boyer was officer was killed and another officer was wounded when a gang member opened fire while they responding to a traffic accident in Whittier, California. ^[1]

The officer were unaware that the suspect was driving a stolen car, which he had slammed into two other vehicles near Colima Road and Mar Vista Street.

They approached the suspect and started patting him down when he pulled out a gun from his waistband and started shooting. ^[1]
