Katie McLaughlin

Katie McLaughlin

Katie McLaughlin is a teacher and the divorced second wife of disgraced Subway spokesman, Jared Fogle.

Lawsuit against Subway

Katie McLaughlin filed a lawsuit alleging that Subway knew and failed to report that Jared Fogle was a pedophile more than 10 years before he was convicted of the crime by police. Fogle was convicted last year of having sex with minors and receiving and distributing child pornography. He was sentenced to 15 years and 8 months at a federal prison in Colorado. [1]

Her lawsuit claims that the company continued to promote Jared despite knowing he was sexually interested in children and ignored multiple allegations.

Fogle became Subway's Colorado in 2000 after claiming the deli sandwiches helped him lose more than 200 pounds. Subway paid him over $15 million during this time, while Subway's American sales went from $3.1 billion to $11.5 billion. [1]

As early as 2004, Subway’s vice president received a complaint that Fogle approached a young girl about a sex act at a promotional event for Subway in Las Vegas.

In 2008, Cindy Mills, a Subway franchise owner in Florida, notified the Subway CEO at the time Jeff Moody via phone call about disturbing comments Fogle made about children.

Excerpt from the Lawsuit:

“Driven by sales rather than the safety of kids, Subway sent its senior public relations manager to ask Jared and the franchisee owner, rather than the victim, about the incident,” the documents say.

Despite their knowledge of his sexual interest in children, they continued to promote their “star spokesman.”

Similar to their response after the 2004 incident, Subway sent its senior public relations manager to ask Fogle about the incident. Fogle denied the allegations, and once again, nothing was done.

McLaughlin got engaged in 2009 and then married in 2010.

Subway never informed McLaughlin about the allegations, and she only found out about them after the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided their home on July 7, 2015.

“Subway made a terribly misguided assumption that Jared’s marrying Katie would correct Jared’s pedophilia behavior,” court docs say.

McLaughlin also said Subway used her and her children's likeness for an animated television advertisement in 2015 in which Fogle was portrayed as a family man despite their knowledge of his pedophilia. She said the ad caused her and her children extensive damage.

Kathleen claims the advertisement, which aired 2,309 times, has caused her and the kids great damage.
