Katia Page is a woman from East Orange, New Jersey. ^[1] She suffers from a fat disorder called Lipedema - a chronic disorder that causes fatty tissue to accumulate in mass around the lower body, and has been getting treatment to help her health condition. The disease is also associated with lymphedema as she has also arrived with a stage 4 condition.

Battle With Lipedema

Katia appeared in a show titled: "My Legs Won't stop Growing" on TLC as a way to shed light on the disorder that has made challenges to her health and her overall quality of life.

She is a bride to be that is undergoing about 10 to 11 appointments in the next few years to help the size of her legs come back to a normal manageable size. 

Her legs are currently about 4ft-wide.

So far, her treatment has gone well for her and she is slowly seeing the results.

Her condition was only properly diagnosed a year ago, but Katia’s legs first began to balloon when she was 7, before expanding rapidly when she was in her early 20s.

She says: “Some days I’ll be in so much pain that I can’t really do anything.

It’s bad when your calf is bigger than your waistline.

One calf – not both – but one.”

For years, she has tried to be a voice that can educate people about the disease and the disorder that she suffers from.

Her uphill battle is made worse by the fact that many people assume she’s overweight because of an unhealthy diet – rather than a rare disease.

Miss Page experiences a daily struggle with people assuming she is overweight because of an unhealthy diet, rather than her life-threatening disease that she can do nothing to prevent.

She has engaged with the community in regards to her condition by being involved with conferences - she has said that students and doctors in medical school don't learn enough about the disease and by the time they diagnose the problem, it can be too late.
