On August 1, 2016 three officers from the Baltimore Police Department showed up to serve warrants for both Courtney and his now deceased girlfriend Korryn Gaines.

Police knocked for 10 minutes and the couple didn’t answer, an officer forced the door open.

Korryn Gaines then engaged in a standoff with the officers for hours, Courtney left the home with a 1-year-old child early on.

He was arrested but later released on his own recognizance.

Gaines posted about the standoff on social media, but the post vanished after police asked Facebook to take them down, citing exigent circumstances.

Gaines was killed in an exchange of gunfire and her son Kodi was wounded.

On August 5, 2016 Courtney was charged with drug possession and distribution of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating the apartment as a common nuisance for the illegal distribution of drugs, and at least five charges related to a 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition found in the apartment.
