Kamiyah Mobley (Alexis Kelli Manigo)

Kamiyah Mobley (Alexis Kelli Manigo)

Kamiyah Mobley, whose other name is Alexis Kelli Manigo, is an 18 year-old girl that has only 8 hours old when she was kidnapped. She has been a resident of Walterboro, South Carolina.

She was abducted from a Florida hospital in July 1998 when she was only a few hours old. In January 2017 she was found alive in Walterboro, South Carolina. DNA testing proved that she was not the daughter of Gloria Williams, her abductor. She had been raised under the name Alexis Manigo.

Her biological mother in Florida, Shanara Mobley, was awarded $1.5 million after settling a lawsuit against the former University Medical Center.

She has since had three other children.

Kamiyah has been living in Walterboro, South Carolina for a great part of her life since she was born. She attended Colleton County High School. People in the community know her as a disciplined girl who would attend church with her family.

She and the family that she grew up with were evicted a few times until they settled in a Habitat for Humanity home.

Gloria Williams raised Kamiyah and according to her side of the family, she was over protective of Kamiyah.

Williams gave her the name Alexis Kelli.

The two were inseparable and when Kamiyah was old enough, the two would even get their nails done together.

Mobley was born on July 10, 1998, to sixteen-year-old Shanara Mobley.

She was abducted hours after birth by an African-American woman, Gloria Williams, impersonating a nurse, reportedly dressed in hospital attire, who entered the room assisted and conversed with the mother and later walked out of the room with Kamiyah in her arms.

Employees initially believed that the woman who kidnapped Kamiyah was a member of the Mobley family.

The confusion allowed for Williams to abduct baby Kamiyah.

Shanara was interviewed later, pleading for the return of her daughter.

The abductor was believed to be between 25 and 35 years old and possibly wore a pair of glasses and a wig.

She was dressed in a floral blue smock and green scrub pants.

It is known that Gloria Williams, about 33 at the time, later forged documents to create a new identity for Mobley.

Williams had miscarried a child a week before the abduction, which is believed to be her motive for the abduction.

After a long investigation that has lasted almost 18 years, on Friday the 13th, 2017, Gloria Williams was arrested and charged with kidnapping and the interference with custody.

The kidnapping occurred the day of Kamiyah's birth which was on July 10th, 1998 at the University Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida.

News of the kidnapping reached national headlines.

Because there were no photographs taken of Kamiyah before her abduction, a computer-generated composite of her was created to distribute to the media.

Distinctive features, such as Mongolian spots and an umbilical hernia were included in reports. 2,500 leads were pursued in the case. Along with additional media appearances, Shanara Mobley was also interviewed on America's Most Wanted .

A massive search and about 2,500 tips produced nothing until DNA evidence proved Mobley’s lineage.

Investigators made the discovery after following up on a tip that a teen was living in South Carolina with the same birth date as the abducted infant, the station reports.

Mobley connected with her father and grandmother over FaceTime and planned to reunite with other biological family members in person. She did not meet her biological father, as he was incarcerated at the time of her birth due to the age difference between himself and Shanara.

Gloria Williams is incarcerated at the Colleton County Detention Center in Walterboro, South Carolina, and is to be extradited to Florida. She has an extensive criminal history, previously being convicted of check and welfare fraud. Mobley described Williams as "no felon" and claimed to have been raised with "everything [she] needed". Williams has since been charged with kidnapping and interfering with custody.

Kamiyah's identity was confirmed through a DNA test. While the woman that Kamiyah has been arrested and charged for the crime, Kamiyah met with her biological who had been looking for her for the past 18 years. Kamiyah met with her parents for about 45 minutes in a private reunion at the Walterboro Police Department. Her biological father said the following about meeting her grown up daughter she hadn't seen since she was born: "First meeting was beautiful. It was wonderful... It's a feeling that you can't explain it, it's hard to put it in words right now it's hard to deal with this here right now... We are just trying to process it, 18 years, it's going to be hard to make that up." [1]

Since Kamiyah turned 18 and began applying for jobs, she learned that her documents were all fraudulent.

Her social security and birth certificate were false.

A series of tips at the end of 2016 led the police to investigate further.

Mobley contacted police, explaining that she suspected she had been abducted.

A DNA sample taken from Mobley after she was born was matched to a swab taken from the potential match.

After the match was confirmed, Mobley was described as "in good health but overwhelmed".

She had been living in South Carolina under the name Alexis Manigo and had since graduated from high school and had a boyfriend.

She had been raised alongside Gloria William's two other children.

Police are continuing to investigate Williams and her extended family.

When Williams was taken away, Kamiyah still communicated with her as her mother.
