Kameleba

Kameleba is a roots Reggae band formed in 2000 in Villa Mercedes, San Luis, Argentina.

Members

Darío Alturria on vocals, Iván Alturria and Jorge Reynoso on guitars and backing vocals, Lionel Folch on bass, Sergio Barrosa on drums, Cristian Gerardi and Maxi Suárez on keyboards and Sergio Domínguez on sax [2].

Genesis of the band

Kameleba's beginnings date back to the year 2000 when in the city of Villa Mercedes the trio of friends came together (Loli Folch, Sergio Barrios and Fabri Mena) to make music their great passion for Jamaican rhythms.

In 2001 the group made its debut in its hometown in a memorial ceremony for the disappeared from the dictatorship of the seventies.

That same year Kameleba was summoned to participate in the national cap festival, held for three days in the city of Córdoba, Argentina Capital, with the participation of the main national exponents of the genre.

The invitation coincides with the departure of Fabricio Mena, the band's original guitarist.

The remaining two summoned Pepo (guitar) and Ras Abuelo (voice) to participate in said festival.

Later, Iván Alturria and Sergio Rodríguez arrived at Kameleba, contributing with their rhythmic guitars and percussion.

Band Profile

With the new members, Kameleba consolidated the influence of the main exponents of Jamaican reggae such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Burnin Spear, Stell Pulse, among others.

Kameleba preserves the very essence of the genre born in the Trenchtown ghetto, political consciousness, religious spirituality and locked roots bars that characterize them.

Musical trajectory

Kameleba has shared the stage with other roots reggae bands from Argentina such as Los cafres (Argentine Band), Nonpalidece, Resistencia Suburbana, Fidel Nadal and Riddin.

In 2004, they released their first album called "Kameleba" with 10 songs, independently and well-received in their country, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru and Mexico.

Kameleba participated in the Oye Reggae III, IV and V Festival, also in the Good Vibrations Festival, in Cosquín Rock 2006, Culture Reggae Tour II and III, Zona Roots and Reggae Punk and Party.

Kameleba won the award for best band and new artist.

"Sueño que va", his second album was released in 2007 recorded in El Cangrejo Records studios with artistic production by Goy Ogalde (leader of Karamelo santo), this album has 11 songs and shows the participation of Néstor Ramijak (voice of Nonpalidece) on one topic and Goy on another.

This album reached Uruguay and Paraguay.

Their third album is called "Vibra Sound" is from 2010 and was edited by Calle Angosta Discos (directed by Lito Vitale), which gives space to musicians and groups from the Province of San Luis.

Kameleba's fourth album is titled "Tiempos de tribulation" with 14 songs, modern and personal sound, recorded and mixed by Eduardo Bergallo at Casa de la Música studios in Villa Mercedes, in the summer of 2012.

In 2015, Kameleba decided to take an indefinite impasse after a last show at the Opera Theater on Corrientes Street in Buenos Aires.

After 4 years, the band returned to the stage with some changes in its members and in 2019 they released "El presente que soñamos", their fifth album, recorded at Lambda Recordings, in the city of San Luis.
