Justin Normand

Justin Normand

Justin Normand is the manager of a local sign shop in Dallas, Texas. He became a sensation around the internet after he put together a few signs with a message that reads: "You belong: Stay strong. Be blessed. We are one America." The message was his way of showing support for the Muslim community in Texas.

Background

Justin was born and raised in the state of Texas. He lives in Dallas with his husband, Gary Cathey. They have been together since January 19th, 1991, and are now married.

Islamic Center of Irving

On November 25th, 2016, Justin began to question himself about what he could do to contribute something positive amidst the conflicts that have emerged in American society as a result of the Presidential election. Working at the sign shop, the idea of making a sign to inflict an inverted view of Right wing Ideology came. He began to put together a few signs with messages indicating his support for the Muslim community in the United States.

During the weekend of Thanksgiving 2016, he took to the Islamic Center of Irving and stood outside for long hours holding the sign that he put together that reads: "You belong: Stay strong.

Be blessed.

We are one America."

He dressed himself as a man wearing a Cowboy hat to portray the image of a stereotypical White man with conservative values. The image provokes the reverse of how Right-wing white males with a cowboy hat are thought of in society.

A photograph was taken and shared on Twitter which has since gone viral and shared throughout most communication mediums.
