Justin Dean Walters was an active duty US Army Infantryman at Fort Drum. Walters lived in the town of Theresa, New York.

Walters has been posted at Fort Drum since he joined the Army in 2007. Walters served on two year-long deployments to Afghanistan in 2009 and 2011, receiving nearly a dozen medals and commendations over the course of his military career. ^[1]

On Sunday night, July, 9th, 2017, State Trooper Joel R. Davis responded to a domestic violence call in Theresa at the home at the Walters. Justin, shot and killed his wife, Nichole Walters. And then, as officer Davis approached the apartment, Walters open fire on the cop and shot him to death with one shot with his rifle. ^[undefined]

When more state troopers responded to the call, Walters surrendered.

The cops found Officer Davis and Nichole, dead at the scene. ^[1]

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has ordered flags on state buildings flown at half-mast in honor of Davis.

Justin Walters appeared in court in the Town of LeRay early Monday morning and is due for a second hearing at 5 p.m. ET.

He's been charged with 1st degree murder in the death of Trooper Davis and 2nd degree murder in the death of Nichole Walters.
