Juman Malouf
Juman Malouf is a talented Lebanese writer and illustrator.
Her partner of 18 years is Wes Anderson.
Early Life
Juman Malouf was born in Beirut, Lebanon and grew up in London.
She was raised by a renowned Lebanese feminist writer between the disparate locales of Saudi Arabia and .london, before attending Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. As she recounts, when she was just 3 months old, her mother packed up the family and fled the Lebanese Civil War. They lived briefly in Saudi Arabia, where her father, an engineer, was working. There, Malouf’s life was filled with “a band of outsiders” similar to those that Trilogy centers around. “We lived in a community of foreigners, and there were all different types of characters,” she says.
Education
Juman graduated from Brown University with a BA in Fine Arts and Art History. Later, she received an MFA from Tisch School of the Arts for Set and Costume Design. She has designed and illustrated for theatre, film, and fashion in the US and Europe.
Work
After graduation, Juman began looking for an outlet with creative control.
Juman has stated,“I wanted to do my own thing, create my own world, and that’s how I came to do a knitwear line, Charlotte Corday."
Imbuing her theatrical roots into the designs, Juman developed embellished sweaters that drew a niche following in the early aughts and situated herself during the heyday of small New York brands.
“As they say, ‘We were big in Japan!’” Malouf quips.
She assisted the stylist Yvonne Sporre, attending Olivier Theyskens and Jeremy Scott’s first shows.
In addition to working on a knitwear line, Juman also began writing; her first book was The Trilogy of Two.
