Julien Aliquot is a French researcher of the history and archeology of the Near East and former resident of the French Institute of the Near East in Damascus (2007-2010). [2] In 2014 he was awarded a Bronze medal from the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique. [2]
Aliquot's specialty is in Ancient Greek and Latin inscriptions and h e has forged strong ties with Jordan, Lebanon and Syria to make epigraphical studes of these in three countries. [2] He published a volume of the Greek and Latin Inscriptions of Syria (IGLS) devoted to Mount Hermon (2008), as well as a monograph on Religious life in Lebanon under the Roman Empire (2009). [2] After that publication t he difficulties of the current situation in Syria lead him to redeploy his field activities in Jordan. [2] His diverse research ranges from Platonic philosophers from ancient Syria to the Byzantine reconquest of the Middle East in the Middle Ages. [2]
