Jonathan Teo is a Co-founder and Managing partner at Binary Capital. Due to the scandal around Justin Caldbeck and sexual harassment allegations by six women, Jonathan Teo offered to resign from Binary at the end of June.
Career
In July, 2014 Jonathan co-founded San Francisco Binary Capital with Justin Caldbeck in San Francisco, California. He currently works there as a Managing Partner.
Previously, in 2011-2013 he was a Managing Director at General Catalyst.
In 2008-2011 he worked as a Principal in Benchmark Capital.
Jonathan also has an experience in working at Google as an Engineering manager, dealing with International Engineering R&D.
Resignation from Binary Capital
On July 8, 2017 Justin Teo sent emails to investors offering his resignation from Binary Capital.
The offer was in response to the scandal surrounding Justin Caldbeck sexual harassment allegations by six women, Jonathan Teo offered to resign from Binary at the end of June however have not accepted his resignation.
On June 28, 2017 Justin had made a Facebook post stating that he was aware of "rumors" about Caldbeck’s behavior in the years before he joined Binary but he trusted Caldbeck’s reassurances that "he was turning over a new leaf."
"I made a big mistake in that from a professional context," Teo wrote in a June 26 Facebook post.
"The corporate world is unforgiving for judgment errors such as this."
He also said that he had been "misled by someone whom I considered a trusted friend."
In emails to investors, Jonathan wrote that he had offered to resign after the revelations about Caldbeck, in an attempt to deflect from media scrutiny over the recent sexual harassment allegations.
He wrote:
"Media has been corrupted. The voice of many have been diluted by the agendas of a few. My offer of resignation was made to quell a news cycle that we are almost positive was exacerbated by a leak from someone in our investor base that had an agenda not in the best interest of the entrepreneurs we work with. Nor the value of the portfolio we are committed to building."
Education
Jonathan studied at Stanford University and graduated with Master's in Management science and Electrical engineering.
He was also a student of University of Sydney and graduated with Bachelor's in Electrical engineering.
