John McNamara was an American journalist based in Annapolis, Maryland. He is the editor of the Bowie Blade-News and the Crofton-West County Gazette. He has worked in various capacities for Capital Gazette for more than 20 years. He was one of the victims that were gunned down at The Capital Gazette Mass Shooting 2018.

McNamara has worked and lived in Anne Arundel County for many years. For the newspaper, he has covered local politics, people on the rise, and other reports regarding the community of Annapolis, Maryland. He is considered to be an active twitter user and has recently retweeted David Hogg regarding gun violence.

On Thursday June 28, 2018, The Capital Gazette Mass Shooting occurred at the Capital Gazette in Anne Arundel County Anne Arundel County, Maryland. According to reports, the shooting has left at least four people dead and others injured. In another report by BuzzFeed, they declare 5 have died. The acting Anne Arundel County Police Chief Bill Krampf, has reported five have died.
An intern at the headquarters of Capital Gazette report that McNamara was reported to be among the victims.
Authorities later confirmed McNamara and Rob Hiaasen as among those dead.
Jarrod Ramos was identified as the suspect in the shooting. [1]
