John Mattone

John Mattone (born September 3, 1956) is an Italian-American executive coach, leadership speaker and the author of several leadership and executive coaching related books.

Early Life and Education

John Steven Mattone was born in Trenton, New Jersey and received a B.S. Degree with high distinction in Management and Organizational Behavior from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts in 1978. He then earned a Master of Science Degree with highest distinction in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida in 1980. He pursued his Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology for one year at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, before leaving to start his professional career.

Career

From 1982 to 1986, Mattone worked as a leadership trainer and internal consultant for Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation, Conoco and Schlegel Corporation.

From 1987 to 1997, Mattone founded and ran his own leadership training company, Mattone Enterprises.

From 1997 to 2010, Mattone was a sales vice president for AlignMark, Inc., Drake Beam Morin, TalentKeepers, Inc., and was President of Executive Development Associates.

In 2011, Mattone and his wife co-founded John Mattone Global, Inc. (JMG), now one of the top coaching and leadership development firms in the world.

Since 2019, Mattone has founded three additional coaching and leadership development firms: Intelligent Leadership Executive Coaching (ILEC), Intelligent Leadership Online Academy (ILOA), and Intelligent Leadership Coaching International (ILCI).

JMG owns an industry leading 14 registered IP trademarks awarded by the USPTO.

Mattone is widely considered to be one of the most in-demand CEO coaches in the world.

Mattone is best known for pioneering Intelligent Leadership (IL), a transformative, results-oriented leadership growth philosophy and process that ignites, cultivates, and polishes an individual's heart, mind, and soul in support of creating an exceptional leadership and cultural capability in an organization.

The IL "Movement" began in 2010.

Since then, Mattone's IL coaching philosophy, process, and tools have transformed the lives of nearly one million people and impacted the success of thousands of organizations from every corner of the globe-53 countries to date

In 2019, he created The John Mattone Graduate Scholarship Fund for Leadership & Coaching at The University of Central Florida, that is awarded annually to a deserving Master’s or Ph.D. student in Industrial/Organizational Psychology who demonstrates financial need while and great promise and potential in the field of coaching and leadership.

Author

Mattone is the author of a number of books on the subjects of leadership, management and executive coaching.

He authored his first two books, Positive Performance Management in 1988 and Success Yourself in 1996.

Mattone’s books have been best-selling releases on Amazon, and two of his books have been CEO Read best-sellers. The Intelligent Leader (2019), is recognized by Bookauthority.org as the 48th best leadership book of all time. His most recent work, The Executive Coach's Handbook: Inside Secrets from the World's Top Executive Coach (August 2022), is an Amazon best-seller and #1 best-selling new release in multiple categories.

Awards and Recognition

He is the recipient of many awards as an executive coach and leadership authority.

In 2019, 2020, and 2021 he was recognized by the research organization Globalgurus.org as the world's #1 coaching authority.

In 2017, he was a finalist for the Thinkers50 Leadership Award, recognizing the top leadership authority in the world.

Since 2017, he has been recognized as one of the top three global coaching authorities and one of America’s top leaders in Trust.

Since 2015, he has been recognized as one of the world’s top leadership authorities and speakers.

In 2014, he was appointed Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Hult International School Business School.

In 2018, Mattone was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Department of Psychology at the University of Central Florida, the highest accolade for exceptional achievement that the College of Sciences bestows upon alumni.

Mattone lives in Lake Mary, Florida with his wife, Gayle.

He has three sons and one daughter and four grandsons and one granddaughter.
