Jody Smith was a police officer of the Sumter county sheriff's office in Americus, Georgia. He is also a Georgia Southwestern State University safety officer. [1]
Shooting
On December 7, 2016 Minguell Kennedy Lembrick shot dead Nicholas Smarr and critically injured Smith after the two officers responded to a domestic disturbance call. The incident occurred outside an apartment complex near the Griffin Bell Golf Course south Georgia Southwestern State University. [1]
Death
On December 8, 2016, Officer Jody Smith (Police Officer) succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
