Jill Lamontagne also known as Jill Mitchell is a former health teacher at Kennebunk High School (KHS) in Kennebunk, Maine. On June 12, 2017 she was placed on administrative leave while police investigate allegations that she had sex with a 17-year-old student.

Personal Life

Jill Lamontagne is a long time resident of Kennebunk, Maine. She is married and has two

young children.

Jill was a fan of the band Nickelback and of country music artists including Carrie Underwood, Billy Currington, and Kenny Chesney among others. She was also a fan of the television shows Grey's Anatomy and Lost (TV series). Jill also liked the documentaries Food Inc and The Bully Project.

Jill attended Kennebunk High School before teaching there and considered herself a nerdy but sporty student. She was a part of the cross country team, basketball team, and softball team, but her favorite was basketball. She explains, “it was mostly because of my teammates. It was a great group of girls and we had a lot of fun together!”

College

Jill Lamontagne studied at the University of Maine at Orono to study to become a nurse while she worked in the Emergency Room for three years in order to pay for nursing school. But when her senior year of college came around she decided she wanted to become a teacher instead and graduated from the University of Southern Maine and eventually got her masters from the University of New England.

Career

Kennebunk High School hired Lamontagne five years ago, first as an ed tech and then as a full-time health teacher about four years ago. Lamontagne passed all legally required background checks, Hawes said.

Lamontagne was well liked and had a 5 star rating across categories on Ratemyteacher. She was also included in the KHS's newspaper, The Rampage as the Teacher of the Week in a October, 2015 article. She was also profiled in a 2013 article in the paper.

Lamontagne wanted to expand her role as a health teacher and said, “I am hoping that I will soon be able to offer a class like ‘Advanced Health’ or ‘Health II’ for students who are really interested in the healthcare field… I would love to provide this type of experience for students here at KHS”!

Mrs. Lamontagne is also the head of two clubs at KHS: Girl Talk and Interact Club.

Girl Talk is a mentorship program involving both high school and middle school girls.

Senior Girl Talk leader Olivia Ferrick states that “she [Mrs. Lamontagne] makes it possible for the club to happen”.

Mrs. Lamontagne is also the advisor for Interact Club, which focuses on volunteerism both within our community and internationally.

In September, 2015 she also held a trip for her students to the American Legion Hall in Kennebunk to help the clean the building as well as talk to and learn from the veterans.

Lamontagne is also the only class advisor for KHS's Sophomore class of 2018.

Lamontagne states that being the only class advisor “hasn’t been too difficult yet, since we aren’t really in the thick of fundraising or anything”.

In addition, when asked the benefits of it are, Lamontagne stated that she “really enjoys getting to know students on a more long term basis”.

Sex Crime Allegations

On June 12, 2017 Jill Lamontagne was placed on administrative when the family of a 17-year-old student notified school authorities that he had had sexual contact with her, said Katie Hawes, superintendent of RSU 21. It is alleged that Jill performed oral sex on the student among other sex acts. She had also stated that she loved the boy and had not had sex for two years before engaging in sex acts with the boy.

Hawes also said Lamontagne was placed on leave in March related to the same allegations of sexual misconduct with a student.

In March, two students came forward to accuse Lamontagne and the student of having a sexual relationship.

Hawes said the alleged victim and Lamontagne both denied the relationship to school administrators, and investigations by the school, Kennebunk Police and the state Department of Health and Human Services were closed.

“We’ve been in close communication with both the police department and the Department of Health and Human Services,” Hawes said.

Details of the alleged relationship were disclosed in a protection from abuse order filed in Biddeford District Court by the student’s mother on the boy’s behalf.

The family sought the protection order two days after Lamontagne was placed on leave, and described in court documents how a sudden hospitalization for a suspected suicide attempt led the student to reveal the relationship to a family member, a registered nurse and a psychiatrist.

If Lamontagne is criminally charged, the district would consider terminating her, Hawes said.It

is a class-C felony punishable by up to five years in prison for a teacher or anyone with supervisory authority over children to engage in sexual contact with someone under the age of 18 who is in their care.

In a narrative included in the protection order, the boy was admitted to the emergency room June 9 after taking Ibuprofen, Tylenol, cold medicine and warfarin, a blood thinner. A day later, he admitted to his aunt that rumors about him and Lamontagne were true. He had previously denied the relationship.

“He stated it was all true and he was sorry, so sorry for all the bad things he did,” the boy’s mother wrote.

“He said he loved her, he said it happened numerous times, in the classroom, at her house, in her car.

She told him that she hadn’t had a sexual relationship in two years.”

The boy said Lamontagne performed oral sex on him, and that “other stuff happened.”

He also admitted to his mother that he had told two classmates what had happened when he was “wasted,” according to the protection order, but that he shouldn’t have said anything because he didn’t want Lamontagne to go to jail.

He described one day when Lamontagne was attending a workshop after a half-day, and that she instructed him to meet her at her home, which is about 2 miles away, where they “fooled around,” according to the protection order.
