Jessica Knoll grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and graduated from Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
At the age of 15, she was raped by three of her classmates at a party.
At the time none of her classmates or the doctor she spoke to called what had happened rape.
Many classmates tormented her and called her a "slut" because of the assault.
The first person who recognized what happened to Knoll, was her therapist at the age of 22.
At the age of 32, she believes that she has come to terms with what happened to her and that it makes her "very, very angry”.

Jessica Knoll began her career working as an intern for Parenting Magazine and freelancing for Popular Science Magazine.
She joined Cosmopolitan Magazine as an Editorial Assistant in 2008.
She later became a Associate Editor and then a Senior Editor at Cosmopolitan.
From 2013-2014, Knoll worked as an Articles Editor at SELF MAGAZINE.

The book follows Ani FaNelli, a successful woman with a blue blood fiancé who had something horrible happen to her while a student at the prestigious Bradley School.
Ani FaNelli's experience draws on Knoll's own experience as a rape survivor.
Prior to the launch of Luckiest Girl Alive, Lionsgate purchased the film rights to the book.
On May 12, 2015, Jessica Knoll published her second book, The Favorite Sister, which became a New York Times Best Seller.
The book is a thriller which covers how reality show about five hyper-successful women ends in a murder.
Personal Life
Jessica Knoll is married and lives with her husband in Los Angeles, California.
After the success of her first book, Knoll bought a Porsche, a house in Los Angeles, hired her $320/hr therapist on a weekly basis, and hired a lawyer.
She says that her financial success has enabled her to be more secure.
Knoll is ambitious and openly says that she wants to be rich.
Knoll believes that part of the wage gap between men and women comes from women being judged for being ambitious.
Her next financial goal is to purchase a home in New York City while maintaining her home in LA so that she can enjoy a bi-coastal lifestyle.
