Jess Shankleman is an award-winning UK politics reporter covering HM treasury at Bloomerang LP. She has been covering renewable energy since January 2016. [5]

Career

Jess Shankleman started her career producing daily news packages for the Directgov and Teachers TV websites, including coverage of George Osborne’s first Budget speech. She left the company in 2010 to join reNews as a news reporter covering UK offshore winds and politics. As part of her roles, she covered the boom in offshore wind energy, building contacts with leading companies and visiting manufacturing facilities overseas. She left reNews in 2015

She also researched stories, wrote scripts, voiced audio footage and sourced and edited images using Avid and Quantel. Jessica worked for Teachers TV’s Big Debate, with Krishnan Guru-Murthy, researching and securing the attendance of audience and panel members.

Prior to joining Blommerang, she was a senior reporter, deputy editor and special projects editor at BusinessGreen where she produced a wide range of news and analysis focused on issues such as project finance, energy, technology and supply chain management.

She also contributed to much of BusinessGreen’s multimedia and data visualization content.

She regularly took responsibility for BusinessGreen's leading news and analysis as well as managing the site's content hubs.

Jessica is a leading commentator in the low carbon sector, writing for the Guardian as well as appearing on BBC World News, Radio 4 and Al Jazeera to discuss business and environment issues.

Awards

Shankleman won an National Council for the Training of Journalists Top Scoop Award for Excellence in Journalism for an exclusive story on the discovery of an unencrypted memory stick containing confidential child protection information. She is also the recipient of Robert Bosch Foundation-EURACTIV fellowship.[3]

Jess Shankleman holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from the University of Sussex and a postgraduate degree in Journalism from Cardiff University.
