Early Life & Education
Jayne Brown's childhood was spent in Baltimore, Maryland. She has been raised by a single mom.
Brown has performed since the age of 4.
She has taken piano, dance, singing, and acting lessons' she also started learning how to play the guitar at a later age. [undefined] She has also appeared in productions by Tyler Perry (including the role of Shannon in his film Madea's Neighbors from Hell ) and other theatrical performances as well. Academically, Brown maintains a 4.0 GPA while continuing her involvement in the performing arts. [undefined] She also got accepted into a performing arts high school. [undefined]
Jayna and her mother moved to Conyers (24 miles away from Atlanta), but they lost their home there. By the time of Brown's audition for American Idol, they were living with a neighbor. [undefined] They eventually moved in with their grandmother.

Jayna Brown auditioned for America's Got Talent when she was 14 years old. Her first appearance was in Episode 4 of Season 11. She sang "Summertime," popularly sung by Ella Fitzgerald. [undefined] She received 'yes' votes from all four judges -Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell- advancing her to the Judge Cuts. [undefined]
On Episode 10, Brown performed "Rise Up" by Andra Day. Louis Tomlinson, who was a guest judge on the episode, pressed the golden buzzer to automatically advance her to the quarterfinals.
On Episode 11, Week 1 of the quarterfinals, Jayna sang Ed Sheeran's "Make it Rain." Howie and Heidi gave her standing ovations and the audience voted for her enough times to qualify for the semifinals.
