The Hotel Morgan (also known as the Clarion Hotel Morgan or the Historic Clarion Hotel Morgan) is a hotel located in downtown Morgantown, Monongalia County, West Virginia. It made its debut on October 16, 1925 as one of the most lavish hotels of the time, with *The Morgantown Post ***** declaring it "Grand". [0] [1] It has hosted a variety of individuals of note such as Eleanor Roosevelt in 1934, President Harry Truman in 1954, as well as being a campaign stop for John F. History
Hotel Morgan opened on October 16, 1925, and upon completion, the local historical society insisted it be named after Zackquill Morgan, the founder of Morgantown. [0]Considered one of the most grand hotels in the area, it has attracted notable visitors like John F. Kennedy, Eleanor Roosevelt, and President Harry Truman. [0] [3]It was known for it's two story ballroom which has and continues to host many events including banquets, fundraisers, weddings, business conventions and local community gatherings such as the Lion's Club or the Kiwanis. [0] [2]It was and continues to be popular due to it's close proximity to downtown Morgantown's amenities like the Metropolitan Theatre, West Virginia University, the Rail Trail, and the Waterfront. In the 1980's, grand hotels, including the Hotel Morgan, started suffering from the popularity of chain motels, but it also suffered due to the fact that it was in need of repairs.
[0]In 1999, the hotel was sold to R. Ted Brant and underwent complete remodel historic renovation which included the restoration of the ballroom's two-story ceilings and balcony.
[0] [1] They also combined the original smaller guest rooms into suites in a blue and gold color scheme, and added a full service restaurant on the 8th floor, the Montmartre. [0]The Montmartre has access to a rooftop terrace and full panoramic view of downtown Morgantown. [0] [2]
