Homer Gibbins (born April 19,1970 Atlanta, Georgia) is a former professional boxer.[12]

In the 1980's, he attended Riverdale High School in Georgia. He is married to Amy Pate Gibbins. Gibbins began boxing at the age of six. He is a father and a devout Christian.

Amateur Career

Homer Gibbins amassed an amateur record of 226 wins, 23 losses with over 100 knockouts.

He earned multiple Georgia state Golden Gloves and Silver Gloves titles and he won a bronze medal at the 1988 Eastern Olympic trials.

Professional Career

He competed as a professional boxer from 1990 to 2007.

He lost his professional debut to Peter Waswa on August 11, 1990.

He rebounded with 10 consecutive wins to include a tko victory over Darren McGrew.

He also holds a win over Kenny Vice.

He defeated Vice at the Cobb County Civic Center in Marietta, Georgia to claim the WBF super lightweight world title.

He defeated Todd Foster via 7th round technical decision in Biloxi, Mississippi on July 8, 1994. Foster was a member of the U.S. 1988 Summer Olympic boxing team. He defeated Chad Broussard on February 4, 2006 in Lafayette, Louisiana. The victory earned him the IBU junior welterweight world title.

He went the distance with Hector Camacho in 1995.

Camacho was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2012. He finished his pro career with a record of 44 wins,16 losses, winning 31 by knockout. Homer Gibbins is a 2015 - 2016 Griffin/Spalding Athletic Hall of Fame inductee.

Went Distance With Hall Of Famer Camacho

After experience numbness in his legs following a loss the doctors at LSU Medical told him he could not fight anymore and that his fighting days were over.

Dr. John "Jack" Griffin neurologist at John Hopkins was a friend of Homer's and send a letter to the commission detailing Homer's diagnosis.

Gibbins is in good health in 2020 and has moved into acting, training, and staying involved in the boxing community.

He has been active in support of Gregory Vita and in a short documentary he stated that he believes that Vita was wrongly convicted and imprisoned for over ten years. As of June 2020 he works as a building manager. Gibbins is the owner of the Homer Gibbins Boxing Gym in Atlanta.
