Fernando Tatis Jr. hit his first Major League home run against Merrill Kelly. Down 9-1 in the bottom of the 6th inning, Tatis swung at Kelly's first-pitch fastball, sending it a projected 395 feet toward the Western Metal Building in left field. The ball's exit velocity was 107 mph.

At 20 years and 89 days old, Tatis became the second-youngest player in San Diego Padres history to go deep since Roberto Alomar ; Almoar was four days younger than Tatis was when he hit his first home run on April 30, 1988.[3]
