Hilly flanks hypothesis
Hilly flanks hypothesis
The Hilly flanks hypothesis is an archaeological and archeobotanical theory developed in 1948 by Robert Braidwood suggesting agriculture originated in the hilly flanks of the Taurus and Zagros Mountains and developed from intensive grain gathering in the region.
The Levantine primacy hypothesis developed in 1980 by Ofer Bar-Yosef and updated in 2001 by Gordon Hillman is generally accepted by modern academia to have replaced the hilly flanks hypothesis, despite a few modern criticisms.
