Hadley Harris

Hadley Harris is technology entrepreneur and venture capitalist lives in New York City. He is currently a Founding General Partner at Eniac Ventures, a seed stage venture capital firm with over $100 million under management and offices in New York City and San Francisco. He is a two time entrepreneur known for his role as an executive at the mobile technology startup Vlingo, acquired by Nuance Communications in 2012 for $225 million, and Thumb acquired in 2013.

Personal Life

Hadley Harris grew up in downtown Boston, Massachusetts, which shaped his lifelong love of science, hip hop and the New England Patriots. Harris' other hobbies include jogging, meditating, mixing music and traveling the world. Harris is passionate about improving the lives of people with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities, which stems from his close relationship with his brother Traves. He is a development board member for Cardinal Cushing Centers where Traves was a student and current member of its adult program.

Education

Hadley Harris graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics. He also completed his degree with a concentration in Electromechanical Systems with graduate level work in Microelectromechanical Systems. Harris was a member of the Undergraduate Assembly at UPenn for three years where he was the lead vote getter and chaired the student life subcommittee. He was also elected to his Senior Class Board where he coordinated class events.

Harris is also a graduate of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania where he completed a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. He participated in Wharton's Global Immersion Program studying abroad in Asia. During his time at Wharton, Harris elected as the Vice President of the Wharton Entrepreneurship Club. He was also an active member of Wharton's Rugby, General Management, Technology, Latin American, Golf and Wine clubs.

Career

Hadley Harris started his career as a Software Developer at PricewaterhouseCoopers, working there from 1999-2001. In this role, he led a three consultant sub-team charged with the design and construction of a mobile software application at a growing internet firm. He also advised clients in defining requirements for Enterprise Resource Planning systems, supported the design of proposed systems, constructed applications and supported clients through acceptance.

From 2000-2004 Harris worked as a Technical Team Lead at Pegasystems. In this role, he managed a 13-member team for the development of a system for the multinational Latin American bank. He also led a cross-functional team to successfully implement an enterprise wide system on time and under budget. He lead the design of Service-Oriented Architecture system and managing a 14-person development team. Harris was named one of five Chairmen’s Award finalists out of over 600 employees in 2003.

From June-September, 2005 Harris was a Product Manager at Microsoft. In this role, Harris developed a strategic opportunity analysis for a new data encryption product. He also built financial analysis of different pricing options for entry into mid-market segment, then recommending a tiered promotion to maximize revenue. Harris conducted a series of sales presentations to European customers and partners at industry conference in Amsterdam.

Hadley Harris worked as a Manager at Samsung Global Strategy Group in South Korea from August, 2006-April, 2007. Around this time the iPhone came out however South Korea already had 4G networks and people were already starting to spend large amounts of time on their phones. This made it clear to Harris that mobile was the next major evolution in computing. In this role, Harris developed plans to build an international real estate investment organization. He also developed a comprehensive strategy for the mobile enterprise market across the US and Europe as well as an open internet ecosystem across consumer electronic products.

From July-August, 2007 Hadley Harris was a Summer Associate at the venture capital firm, Charles River Ventures. He lead the due diligence for potential investments including technical, regulatory, market, competitive, customer and financial analysis. He also sourced new deals from professional network in the wireless applications, enterprise software and Web 2.0 spaces.

In October, 2007 Harris joined Vlingo, a speech recognition software company as their Head of Business & Market Strategy and Vice President of Marketing. In this role, he managed the company's Marketing and Business Development. Harris drove Series B funding efforts to successfully raise $20 million round lead by Yahoo!. Harris left the company in 2011 after it was acquired by Nuance Communications for $225 million.

From July, 2011-June, 2013 Harris was the Chief Marketing Officer of Thumb, world's largest social network for opinions. With users spending 5 hours per month on Thumb's mobile platform, it boasts the highest level of engagement for any social network, second only to Facebook. After moving on from his position as CMO, Harris stayed on with Thumb as a board observer.

In September, 2008 Nihal Mehta founded the venture capital firm Eniac Ventures with Hadley Harris, Vic Singh, and Tim Young. The firm focuses on seed stage investments and has over $100 million dollars under management with offices in New York City and San Francisco.
