Gwen Carr is the mother Eric Garner. She is from Staten Island, New York. Gwen was a conductor and later a train operator with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) where she worked for 22 years.

Gwen Carr became an activist after her son Eric Garner, was chocked to death by NYPD officer Daniel Pataleno for selling loose cigarettes. The officer was not indicted causing widespread protests across the United States of America.
