History

The founders previously were part of Google's Tensor processing unit. The company now has 8 of the first 10 people from the TPU team "building a next-generation chip". Originally, the concept was created as part of their 20% free time to work on a side project, a well-known project at Google. However, they now are potential competitors with Intel, Nvidia and Amd, Entering the chip market is expensive and very competitive.

Funding

Groq raised $10.3 million and incorporated in Delaware in 2016 according to SEC filings. "We're really excited about Groq,"Chamath Palihapitiya wrote in an e-mail. "It's too early to talk specifics, but we think what they're building could become a fundamental building block for the next generation of computing."

Groq aims at empowering companies like Facebook, Amazon and Tesla to improve Machine learning efficacy.
