Gregory Kohs

Gregory J. Kohs is a market research practitioner, owner of Research Biz, LLC. He also operates the MyWikiBiz website and has also been involved with the Wikipedia watchdog site Wikipediocracy. His career has spanned work with several small- to mid-sized full-service market research firms, as well as 13 years in research leadership roles with Comcast (Xfinity) and Comcast Business.

Early Life

Kohs was born in 1968 in southern Michigan. Raised as a Roman Catholic, he attended public schools for his entire primary and secondary education. Kohs moved with his family to central Florida when he was in junior high school. In 1986, Kohs accepted a Dean's Scholarship (half tuition) to attend Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated magna cum laude in 1990 with a Bachelor's degree in history and accepted a Russell Conwell Fellowship (full tuition, plus annual stipend) to attend Temple University in Philadelphia. There, he pursued a PhD degree which combined elements of Military History and Quantitative Methods in Geography. After passing the comprehensive exams and completing work on about one-quarter of his dissertation (which was to have covered the Eastern European aviation industry in the 1930s), Kohs opted to leave academia with his Master's degree to pursue a career in marketing research.[2]

Career

Having worked for three different Brandywine Valley (Pennsylvania) research firms - Data and Management Counsel, Research Works, and ICR - International Communications Research - Kohs then took a role as a research director at Comcast. In 2013, he was asked to head up the market research department for Comcast Business, the fast-growing B2B division of Comcast.

In 2006, Kohs expanded his reach into entrepreneurial ventures centering on Wiki editing and optimization, launching his MyWikiBiz service. He appeared a number of times on national television shows, to talk about some of the underlying problems with Wikipedia.

In 2021, Kohs launched his own market research practice, called Research Biz, LLC, which provides quantitative and qualitative research, knowledge management services, and brand messaging consulting.

Personal Life

Kohs and his wife Stephanie were married in January 2000, in Key West, Florida, on the 125-foot schooner Liberty Clipper. They have one daughter. Kohs has served as a volunteer board director of the Church of the Loving Shepherd, as well as the Jensen Beach High School PTSA. He also volunteers as a public address announcer at swim meets and at regattas held at the United States Sailing Center of Martin County. Kohs is an accomplished singer of both choral and popular music, a songwriter, and musician.[4]
