Girl with Red Balloon is a painting of a girl reaching out towards a red, heart-shaped balloon by Banksy.

The artwork shredded itself after being auctioned at Sotheby's for over £1,000,000.

The painting was originally found on a wall in Great Eastern Street in London and became voted the United Kingdom's favourite piece of art.

The gallery piece was painted on board mounted canvas, using acrylic paint and spray paint. [1]

Banksy tweeted after the event*"Going, going, gone"*.

^[0]The art piece was part of Banksy's Anti-establishment pieces, generally opposing Capitalism.

The event organizers were shocked by the stunt, since the painting frame had a shredder built into it.

The auction took place at Sotheby's.

Alex Branczik, the organizer of the auction said " 'It appears we just got Banksy-ed."

It is unclear whether the promoters will obtain the full commission, but art critics have argued that the piece has at least doubled in value since it has become prt of Art history.
