Oakland GhostShip (Commune)

Oakland GhostShip (Commune)

GhostShip was a live-work artist commune in Oakland, California. The building was operated by Derick Ion Almena, an artist and photographer who has worked with artists including Beats Antique and Crash Berlin. The building consisted of several unique rooms filled with musical instruments, tapestry, and various relics. [1]

The commune started in 2013 and quickly emerged as a favorite spot for local musicians.

Upwards of 50 people lived in the building.

[2]Many of the artists who lived there were involved in Burning Man.

Ion, his wife, and three children all lived at GhostShip.

The children were not present at the time of the fire.
