Gerrick D. Kennedy is an American journalist and author based in Los Angeles, California. He is the author of Parental Discretion Is Advised: The Rise of N.W.A and the Dawn of Gangsta Rap.
Early Life and Education
Gerrick D. Kennedy is originally from Cincinnati. He holds a BA in Journalism Ohio State University, where he was a founding member of the campus chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists.
Career

Gerrick D. Kennedy came to The Times as an intern in 2009. In 2012, Gerrick was named Emerging Journalist of the Year by the National Association of Black Journalists and in 2014 The Advocate featured Kennedy in its annual 40 Under 40 list.
Kennedy has covered topics such as the death of Whitney Houston [14] and the health of Kanye West. He has interviewed some of the most notable people in the music industry including Mariah Carey, Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs, Drake, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Lopez, Brandy, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Sam Smith, Nicki Minaj, One Direction, Lil Wayne and The Weeknd. [1]
In December 2017, Gerrick published the book Parental Discretion Is Advised: The Rise of N.W.A and the Dawn of Gangsta Rap. During the process of writing the book, Gerrick spent 12+ hours a day doing research and organizing information. Gerrick D. Kennedy interviewed many people surrounding N.W.A. including its members, close family, and other close associates. The book has received wide acclaim for reviewers.
