He is also a member of the boards of directors of Optiv and OneStream, a personal venture capitalist, and an Honorary Professor of International Security at the University of Birmingham.[14] He is believed to be the only American military figure to throw out the first pitch of a World Series game and to flip the coin at a Super Bowl while in uniform.General Petraeus culminated his military career with six consecutive commands as a general officer, five of which were in combat, a record unmatched in the post-World War II era.

Prior to joining KKR, General Petraeus served over 37 years in the United States Army, including tours in Cold War Europe, the United States, Central America, Haiti, Bosnia, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the greater Middle East. In 2019 General Petraeus released a statement to the The Wall Street Journal warning against the threat of the Taliban in Afghanistan and urging President Donald Trump to be careful in his decision making in regards to troop withdrawal and potential false and misleading statements by the Taliban.[15] General Petraeus believed that President Trump made the right decision by calling off the proposed summit with the Taliban that was supposed to take place in Maryland in September 2019.[22]

After General Petraeus’ retirement from the military, he served as Director of the CIA, during which time the Agency played the central role in a number of important achievements in the global war on terror, established an overarching strategic campaign plan for the Agency, and pursued initiatives to invest additional resources in the Agency’s most important element, its human capital.
