Francesca Fiorentini is a journalist, activist, and comedian based out of the San Francisco Bay Area. She is well known for her role as a Senior Host and producer for AJ+. [1] [6] [2]
Early Life & Education
Francesca Fiorentini i graduated from Menlo-Atherton High School. In 2005, she graduated from the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University with a Bachelor of Arts in Feminist Theory and Colonial Studies. Fiorentini wrote a thesis titled "Ideas for Action: Postcolonial feminism." She received the University's Founder's Award for Academic achievement in 2005 and she made the Dean's list every year. Career
As a Senior Host and Producer, Francesca Fiorentini helped Al Jazeera Media Network successfully launch the online news channel AJ+ in 2013. She has captured online audiences with Viral hits like "The Real Deal with the U.S.-Mexico barrier" and "How America is Already Socialist." For AJ+ she has also covered climate change in Delta, Louisiana; disappearances in Mexico; the 2016 U.S. presidential election; and the development of female Viagra. From 2016 to 2018, Fiorentini was the Host and head Writer for AJ+'s weekly news comedy show Newsbroke on Facebook Watch. [1] [2] [6]
Fiorentini has also been a correspondent with National Geographic Explorer since 2016. She has played matchmaker in Japan, toured a cadaver farm in Texas, and met the Oklahoman s demanding accountability for hydraulic fracturing-induced earthquake. For her National Geographic work on the draconian abortion laws in El Salvador she won a Media Excellence Award from Planned Parenthood in 2018. [6]
Francesca regularly speaks on topics ranging from dick jokes to power as a stand-up comic. She has been featured on the podcast Lovett or Leave It (2018), the BBC Arts Hour (2018), and has been part of SF Sketchfest (2017, 2018), SF Comedy Day (2017), and the Asian Americans Comedy Festival in Los Angeles, California (2015). She is also a regular contributor to the progressive news network, The Young Turks. [6]
She is also the host of "Red, White and Who?" a show on MSNBC that examines health care in Texas, New York and Utah. It premiered on MSNBC on December 29th, 2019. [31]
