Early Life and Education

Esther is a daughter of a therapist and yoga teacher who introduced her to yoga at home. Her mom started practicing and then trained as a teacher. She saw her mom become stronger, more relaxed, happier and most of all loving it!.[3]

At the age of 18, Esther had already followed her first teacher training at the Saswitha Foundation in the Netherlands.

She was trained in Hatha yoga, Vinyasa yoga and Yin yoga. She continued her education with Clive Sheridan and her anatomy studies with Leslie Kaminoff and Clarity studies with Taetske Kleijn. [4]

Esther has been grateful to her early teachers: Clive Sheridan, who taught her not to take anything too seriously and Taetske Kleijn, with whom she studied the Clarity Process, and also her training and work as a therapist.

Through her spiritual studies (including the Clarity Process) and application of this knowledge in her daily life, she found that old conditionings are what hold us back from experiencing the reality of the present moment as it really is.

It is this learning that Esther brings into all her teachings.

“Throughout my life, practicing yoga taught me to relax, how to find a way out of worries and stress.

Yoga showed me the joys of being fit and strong.

Yoga taught me to self-reflect and to accept life as it comes...finally, yoga and my clarity work showed me that there was nothing to ‘find’ and that everything I was looking for is ‘right here, right now.’ And all I could ever do was to let go of the bondage that stopped me from experiencing the truth.

I will always be very grateful to the path of yoga, the Clarity process and the miracle that life is.”

Esther said.

Career

Esther worked for many years as a therapist and has a huge fascination with the human psyche.

She loves teaching more dynamic styles like Hatha or Vinyasa Flow, focusing on strength, stability and fitness, along with slower practices such as Yin yoga and Meditation that allow one to drop in and get to know themselves better. [10]

She aims to enable her students to see past their old stories, freeing them up to experience the truth.

As an avid student, Esther is continually evolving her practice through further training and study.

Esther is always open to questioning previous teaching methods (including her own) and challenging herself, integrating new learning and insights into her classes.

[5][6]

Evolution of EkhartYoga

EkhartYoga was born from Esther Ekhart’s dream to share the love of yoga.

The story behind EkhartYoga.com started in Ireland, where Esther used to have a very small yoga studio, in the middle of nowhere. Her classes were fully booked and she wanted to reach more students. So Esther decided to make videos with her husband and put them on YouTube. They were a huge success, and she had the idea of making longer classes and inviting other teachers that shares common principles and philosophies with her to participate.

EkhartYoga.com went live in September 2012 and has been growing ever since.

Esther Ekhart’s strength

In addition to connecting with her students online, She love to connect with them personally at retreats, workshops, yoga festivals and teacher trainings all over the world – and in her weekly classes near Amsterdam! [43]

Anyone can join the EkhartYoga community and get unlimited access to online yoga, meditation, and Pilates classes.

It can be practice from any location and any time.

[41][42]

She has thousands of regular students around the world following my online classes.

Marital Life

Esther is married to Bas Paul. They are the dynamic duo behind EkhartYoga.

They met as kids, when Esther was three years old but didn’t become an item until 2000. Esther and her husband emigrated to Ireland in 2000 as an adventure. Bas built a yoga studio for Esther, which became very popular today.

During a Vipassana retreat, Esther got the idea to start filming yoga classes and posting them online, first on YouTube and later on her own website. It was obvious that Bas would do the filming, although he was not hindered by any knowledge or experience!

At first Bas would show his impatience when filming Esther, resulting in useless footage.

When their personal life gets overly occupied by work, they will take a weekend break, visit family or friends, or go for a long walk with Stip (their dog).

They do meditate at least 20 minutes together each morning.

Bas usually joins Esther for support in her retreats and workshops.

On those occasions, he likes to join the morning classes and then do some work or enjoy the location for the rest of the day.

Esther does her daily practice with EkhartYoga at home.

They both like long walks in the forest, going out for dinner, and doing city trips.

Although their taste does not always match, in the winter they like watching a TV series at night.

Esther and Bas hardly ever get bored of each other and they so much enjoys each other’s company.

Esther loves to visit her friends, go to the sauna with her sisters, take a meditation retreat, or read a book, while Bas likes to go to a music gig, techno festival, or hang out with his mates.[8]
