Herzog holds a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from Long Island University. She also graduated from Long Island University with a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Archives and Records Management. She previously graduated from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies. Herzog also graduated from the Hollywood Technical Institute with a Certification in Script Supervision. 
Erika Herzog worked with Wikimedia New York City on Wikipedia organizing and outreach. She was the driving force behind our Wikimedia New York City chapter getting its first Wikimedia Annual Plan Grant for over US$74,000. She also reorganized their namespace and created event graphs that led to growth and improved outreach efforts. In 2018, she was globally banned by the Wikimedia Foundation. Herzog has been vocal about issues of harassment and gender bias in the Wikipedia community.  
From 1998-2012, Herzog worked as a Financial Presentation Specialist at Credit Suisse. In the summer of 2010, she was an Intern at the Rodgers & Hammerstein Archive of Recorded Sound at the New York Public Library Performing Arts Library. 
She was previously an Office Manager at Scott Rudin Productions (SR Films, Inc.) from 1996-1997. Herzog worked as an Administrative / Executive Assistant at Interiors Group from 1995-1995. She began her career as a Freelance Script Supervisor and Production Assistant for films and television shows.
