Erika Delgado is a meteorologist & TV broadcaster. She is the weekend morning meteorologist at WSVN and also a native of South Florida. Her passion for the weather can be traced back to 1992 when Hurricane Andrew came barreling through South Florida. She has been voted as the favorite Miami based weather-caster, as she helps the Florida residents to start the day with up to date info on the weather delivered with clarity[1]
Early Life
She bagged her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Florida International University and then continued on to Mississippi State University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Meteorology and a Master’s degree in Geo-sciences.
She has been passionate about weather from a young age.
Her fondness and curiosity for the weather can be traced back to 1992 when Hurricane Andrew hit her hometown, South Florida.
While her father was busy boarding up their Hialeah home, she pleaded with him to leave a small opening in one window so she could experience the full power of the storm, her supportive dad consented to her request.
Upon witnessing the devastating aftermath, Erika decided to make it her career mission to forewarn people of impending natural disasters.
Career
Erika Delgado started her career in Boston, forecasting for various locations across the country as an on-air bilingual meteorologist with the Weather Company.
She covered various cities from coast to coast which allowed her to gain a comprehensive understanding of the nation’s weather – droughts in the west, blizzards in the northeast, tornado outbreaks in the Midwest and hurricanes on the East Coast.
Erika had her first stint in local news at WCSH in Portland, Oregon, as a freelance meteorologist.
In 2013, She worked in NBC 6 South Florida, where she worked as a weekend meteorologist. She then worked as a freelance meteorologist in South Florida for a year until she joined the 7 News Weather Team. [4]
She is honored to be able to work in her hometown as part of the 7 News Weather Team & welcomes any opportunities to work with local charities and organizations in order to give back to the same community that has given her so much.[3] In March 2017, she was presented with a Media Excellence Award by students from Columbus High School (Columbus, Georgia) in recognition as the best weather reporter in South Florida. The CCNN Live Media Excellence Award is an annual event that is hosted by Columbus High School’s live TV network. As a Florida based WSVN meteorologist, she is estimated to earn an average salary of $94,744.
Personal
She was born in South Florida, she is also a spinning instructor, and maintains an active, healthy lifestyle, spends as much time out on the water as she can & enjoys spending as much time as possible with her family.
She celebrates her birthday on the 4th of April which falls on "The National Hug A News-person Day".
Loving to give back to the community, she often participates in various charity events organized by the local community.
