Eric Tyson is an American author and financial consultant based in the Greater New York Metropolitan Area. He is most well-known for his book Personal Finance for Dummies.
Education
Eric Tyson attended Yale University and graduated in 1984 with a B.S. in economics and biology. He earned his M.B.A. from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Career

Tyson began his career in Boston as an Associate Consultant for Bain Capital and was promoted to Senior Management Consultant; he moved to San Francisco when he was promoted. In 1991, Tyson left Bain to become a Personal Financial Advisor and founded Financial Information Center where he provided hourly-based personal financial planning for individuals, families and small business owners. In addition, he is a former columnist and award-winning journalist for the San Francisco Chronicle.
Tyson is the best-selling author of personal finance books which include Personal Finance For Dummies, Investing For Dummies, Home Buying Kit For Dummies, among others. His book Personal Finance For Dummies won Benjamin Franklin Best Business Book of the Year Award.
Eric has taught a personal financial management course at the University of California.
He has spoken at many corporations and non-profits.
His work has been featured and quoted in hundreds of local and national publications and media outlets including Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Forbes, Kiplinger's Personal Finance, Money (magazine), Worth Magazine, Parenting Magazine, USA Today and on The Today Show, ABC, Fox News, CNBC, Nightly Business Report, CNN, and on CBS national radio, NPR's Marketplace Money and Bloomberg Business Radio.
