Ely Serna is a student at West Liberty-Salem High School. ^[undefined] He is a wrestler and honor roll student at the school. ^[undefined]

On January 20, 2017, Ely opened fire at his school just as classes began with a 12-gauge shotgun. ^{[undefined] [undefined]} While in the bathroom loading the weapon, Logan Cole walked in on him, and began shooting at him multiple times. ^{[undefined] [undefined]}

Ely then stormed off in the hallway and began to randomly shoot at classroom windows.

^[undefined] Staff members quickly took down Ely and pinned him to ground till authorities came and placed him in custody without incident. ^{[undefined] [undefined] [undefined]}

Ely was charged with a delinquency charge of felonious assault. He is currently lodged in the Marysville Juvenile Detention Center. ^{[undefined] [undefined] [undefined]}
