Ehab Jaber

Ehab Jaber

Ehab Jaber is an Arab-American of Saudi descent and a resident of South Dakota. He gained fame in April 2017 after posting a Facebook Live video flashing multiple guns in his van. [10]

Facebook Live

On April 9, 2017, a conference for Worldview Weekend (a Christian radio program) was held at a Hilton Garden Inn in Sioux Falls. Ehab Jaber heard that it was an anti-Muslim conference. [21]According to Ehab Jaber, there may have been up to 500 people at the event, including men, women, and children. [10]

He attended the event while recording it on Facebook Live, wearing a shirt that said the following:

"I am an American I am a Muslim I open carry And conceal carry I am only dangerous If you are stupid"[-1]

In the beginning of the video, he recorded the book cover of a Qur'รขn he brought to the conference and scanned the audience with his phone. [12]

Ehab Jaber was about to leave when a retired police officer [17]who was working security for the event confronted him and said that recording was not allowed during the event.

After explaining what he was doing and being told that guns were not allowed in the facility, he left without incident.

[16]When the officer asked for his name, he replied:

"My name is John Smith.

The Muslim John Smith."

[12]

As he was leaving the building, he was still recording.

He went on the say that the people at the conference were mainly White and they were all scared.

After he left the building, Ehab Jaber got into his car and made another that got more traction.

[10]

In the first video, he filmed himself showing 6 firearms, two of which were concealed on his body (one at the hip and one near the foot).

Two of the guns he had in his van were assault rifles. He also showed the ammunition for the guns.

After showing each gun to the camera, he sarcastically told his viewers to "be scared" to "be terrified," and that this was how he traveled.

[10]

A second video was uploaded soon thereafter.

It discussed how the conference was created to capitalize on everyone's fear, particularly to sell his books.

[14]

Aftermath

FBI

After uploading the Facebook Live video of him showing his firearms, two federal agents from the FBI arrived at Ehab Jaber's house. They wanted to find out if he had any bad intentions by going to the event.

Both they and the South Dakota Poice Department concluded that his actions broke no laws during his display at the event.

[17]

As of April 19, Ehab Jaber is being investigated by Lincoln County state's attorney. No charges have been brought against Jaber but the state's attorney is evaluating whether he legally possessed the guns in the video and whether or not the language in the video was threatening or assaulting. [0]
