Dr. Rachel Wellner
Dr. Rachel Wellner
Dr. Rachel Wellner is Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Montefiore-Einstein Center for Cancer Care and is a surgeon specializing in breast cancer treatment.
She a Connecticut native.
She graduated from Dartmouth College in 1997, where she was Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. She received her Medical Degree from the University of Connecticut and completed a Masters Degree in Public Health at Columbia University.
During her time at Columbia, she also pursued research activities, which culminated in the publication of her textbook, Aging, Heart Disease and Its Management.
She next went on to pursue her surgical training at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine, receiving various teaching awards.
She expressed an early interest in international health care and her passion led her to set up many programs around the world to aide those with less access to medical technology.
Dr. Wellner helped establish a clinical rotation in an underserved region of the Dominican Republic.
She completed a Society of Surgical Oncology- accredited breast oncology fellowship at The John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California in 2009.
She is also a board-certified general surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
In July 2016, Dr. Wellner accepted a plea deal for injuring a police officer by driving away with her car door open while the cop was writing her a ticket.
She will not have to serve jail time since it was her first offense and the cop was not seriously injured.
She will be doing 10 days of community service.
