Dr. James Goodrich

Dr. James Goodrich was a Neurosurgeon at Montefiore Medical Center. He was Director of the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery and Professor of Clinical Neurological Surgery, Pediatrics, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. [1] [3] [2]

Education

Dr. Goodrich graduated from University of California, Irvine and earned a Masters and Doctorate of Philosophy from Columbia University. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. His intern and residency training was completed at Presbyterian Hospital in New York City and the New York Neurological Institute. [3] [7] [8] [9] [10]

Career

Dr. Goodrich also held the rank of Professor Contralto of Neurological Surgery at the University of Palermo in Italy. He had a particular interest in complex craniofacial anomalies being a central member of the Craniofacial Center at Montefiore. He has advanced the surgical techniques used for repair of these conditions. He has authored numerous book chapters and articles on the subject and is known internationally as a prominent lecturer on the topic. Dr. Goodrich is a oenophile. [1]

Military service

He was a United States Marine Corps and Vietnam War veteran. It was during this time he decided to pursue a medical career. [1]

Separation of Conjoined Twins

Goodrich was thrust into the spotlight in 2004 when he operated on Carl and Clarence Aguirre, twins from the Philippines who shared about 8 centimeters of brain tissue.

In October 2016, Dr. Goodrich led the separation of conjoined 13 month old twins Anias and Jadon MacDonald.

It marked the seventh separation surgery performed by Dr. Goodrich and just the 59th craniopagus separation surgery in the world since 1952.

Personal Life

Dr.Goodrich

was a native of Oregon and had a penchant for historical artifacts. He is survived by his wife and three sisters. [6]

Death

On March 30, 2020, Dr. Goodrich died from complications related to Coronavirus (COVID-19). [6]
