Dr. Ivan Edwards (FRSA)^[11] is an American Medical doctor, entrepreneur and a commissioned USAF Reserve medical officer.^[2][3] He is involved in humanitarian initiatives, engages in various Community activist roles, and participates in public speaking.^[3][10]

Dr. Edwards is board-certified in the specialty of Physical medicine and rehabilitation and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (FAAPMR). He is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA). ^[4][7][11]

He is the Owner/Chief Executive Officer of JOVANA Rehabilitation Medicine and Pain, and IEME LLC.^[7]

He is also a current USAF Flight surgeon, at the rank of Lt. Colonel. He is a recipient of the US Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak leaf cluster, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with bronze hourglass.^[7][12][15]

Dr. Edwards is a member of the Texas Medical Association, the Aerospace Medical Association, the Military Officers Association of America, and the Society of USAF Flight Surgeons.^[4]

Dr. Ivan Edwards attended Rivier University, graduating with a BS in Biology in 1999. He then completed medical school at Midwestern University, in Glendale, Arizona, in 2004. In 2005, he completed his Internal Medicine training at Eastern Virginia Medical School, in Norfolk, Virginia. He subsequently completed his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UTHSCSA in 2008. He thereafter completed extra specialized training at the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine to become a Flight Surgeon.^[6][7][3]

As a specialist in PM&R, Dr. Edwards treats patients with issues related to bones, joints, muscles, nerves and pain.

A few of his patients have had trauma, sport injuries, spinal cord and brain injuries.

His specialty focus is neurorehabilitation and comprehensive pain management.^[2][18]

Dr. Edwards co-started a child sponsorship program for disadvantaged children and orphans in Uganda in the early 1990s.^[10][17]

In 2013 - 2017, he ran rehabilitation programs for people with neuro-degenerative disorders and pain (as director of two acute rehabilitation units), in San Antonio, Texas.^[3][18]

From 2017 to now, he has integrated care for veterans in various hospital settings in Texas.

He is actively involved in veteran affairs.^[13][11]

He conducts community wide symposiums on the topic of resilience.^[20][21]

Dr. Edwards advocates for people's health, wholeness and welfare.

He has spoken in various settings, nationally and internationally.

He speaks on topics of health, healing, self-growth and self-empowerment.

He has also appeared on local and international TV, and is invited, by various entities, to speak at conventions and seminars.

Personal

He was born in Uganda, is of Afro-European descent, an immigrant, and a citizen of the USA.^[18]

He is a commissioned Kentucky colonel, in recognition of his service for the community, state, or nation.^[14]

He is also an ordained minister.^[10]

He worked as a Health & Wellness physician for the San Antonio Fire Department.^[18]

Other

He loves travel, sports, and reading.

He holds a black belt in Taekwondo, and also Japanese karate. He once owned a dojo. He speaks Ganda, Swahili and English.
